being a joiner

Am now officially a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and will be attending the Wisconsin chapter's fall retreat. I'm really excited to see my critique group compadres and to get in on the Official-Type Business.

Finishing the first run of editing on the fairy tale continues to be tough. I think I've finally got a title, but the climax chapters fall flat and don't really get Horatio where he needs to be by the end of book one. There's no real build into some big, final confrontation; the story just sort of peters out. No good.

Needless to say, queries to lit agents didn't get out in August, and I worry that they won't for some time, now that I'm back in grad school (why did I decide to take four classes again?). And don't even bring up NaNo.

You know when you're SO CLOSE to something, but you just can't seem to go that last mile?
